Poetry by the Truckee River Killer is as profound as the Bible
Jeff and I drove around the desert last night selecting my fantasy properties on which to have wind power and live with as many cats as I want.

Giz: Why was Jesus wandering around the desert anyway?
Jeff: He was fasting for 40 days and 40 nights after he was baptized. It was a trial of strength.
Giz: That seems kind of stupid.
Jeff: Well, they tell it better in the book.

Are you glad you were raised Catholic? I am. Discuss.

It's my anti-cult inoculation! My friend Jeff (not your Jeff :o) ) was also raised Catholic and says that you can't leave; you are Catholic for life, even if you are non-practicing. It's hard to suddenly say "Oooh...now I'm a Quaker" or whatever. You can go to other churches, but that Catholic seed is still there. I agree. So, perhaps Catholicism is our cult?

I'm glad I was raised with a religion. I love how our brand of Catholicism was "listen to the Pope unless he's really crazy, like on issues of birth control, abortion, and divorce."

I think you and Jeff hit it on the head.

"It's hard to suddenly say 'Oooh...now I'm a Quaker' or whatever."

There's another quotable. :) In fact, I suspect it borders on magical when used out of context around strangers.

PS Did you love how Eddie Izzard's entire freakin' show was about theocracy sux??

The people sitting next to us got up and left about 10 minutes into the show. They were distinctly not pleased with the comentary on religion. But then they think Larry the Cable Guy is the height of comedy. So, yeah.

I didn't realize the entire theme disgusted them. I thought it ruled. He told me to vote early, vote often for Barack Obama.

Ha! Jeff is so right, but then we do not have to tell that to someone with a Real Name®, do we?

I linked you to this article, right?

It turns out it was the Holy Ghost that led Jesus into the desert. (So that's what the Holy Ghost does -- get you hopelessly lost.) The belief is that this was God testing Jesus' devotion and, ultimately, telling Christians not to question God's will. And, in one of the three accounts of Jesus' time in the desert, is one of the few occurrences of the actual word 'Satan' in the Bible.

I am still trying to get over the idea of it being released exclusively in walmart.
